Supporting healthy development from the very start
Being born is tough work for both the mom and the baby. This wonderful new life deserves to start out with an optimally functioning cranial / spinal system protecting the delicate tissue it surrounds. The spine is the structure that provides protection to their nervous system. Since the brain, spinal cord and spinal nerves are responsible for your baby’s immune, digestion, elimination and respiratory systems, it is important these structures develop properly to promote best health and functioning. Did you know an infant’s spine doubles in size in their first two years of life?
An infant chiropractic evaluation is recommended shortly after birth for all new babies, but especially if your baby experienced a breech presentation, forceps or vacuum delivery, shoulder dystocia, cesarian section, extended labour and delivery or colic.
At Bayside Wellness our chiropractors use gentle hands-on assessment techniques. These sessions may be performed while you are holding the baby or nursing, or comfortably laying on one of our specially designed pediatric adjusting pillows. It will assess the baby’s nervous system and primitive reflexes, as well as their entire body with a special focus on tone. It will also assess tongue function, palate and jaw. Some of our chiropractors are trained in tethered oral tissue (TOTS) assessment and work closely with health professionals in the community to manage tongue tie.
Toddlers go through many physical milestones such as walking, running, jumping, climbing and kicking to name a few. These milestones come with a lot of falls and injuries which can impact the growth and development of your child’s spine and nervous system.
