NEUROMODULATORS
This is the most common procedure preformed in the Medical Aesthetics industry, commonly known as ‘Botox’, but also comes under the Trade names of Dysport, Xeomen, Leytbo.
So what is a neuromodulator?
A neuromodulator is a natural chemical found within the body that causes muscle contraction. What ‘Botox’ does is it interferes with this natural event, causing the muscle not to contract. The delivery of the neuromodulator to specific muscle sites results in temporary paralysis of that muscle area.
This is done to various muscle areas of the face and neck. The result is that the skin smooths out and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is reduced.
The use of a neuromodulator has other effects as well. The Botulism toxin also interferes with the release of pain and inflammatory mediators. This is why neuromodulator is being used for the treatment of migraines.
What is it used for??
As stated above, it is most commonly used for the treatment of dynamic and stagnant lines and wrinkles, caused by repeated muscle contractions. Overtime, these muscle contractions cause lines to develop. With aging of skin and the resulting skin laxity and thickening, these wrinkles become permanent.
How is a treatment performed?
A full facial muscle assessment is performed. Determining muscle symmetry and strength. The skin health is assessed. The area of treatment is discussed and a plan is determined by both the client and the professional.
Very small needle injections of the neuromodulator are administered into the targeted muscles of the face.
A numbing cream can be used for areas that are more sensitive.
The effect of the neuromodulator starts within a few days, with the full effect noted on day 14 post injection. At this time, a reassessment is done to determine if a ‘top up’ is necessary.
This is especially important with beginners, as how the muscles respond to the neuromodulator varies. So future treatments may be altered. This is normal and expected.
Who is this treatment for?
Anyone above the age of 18 who is desiring to decrease and prevent the appearance of wrinkles.
How long do results last?
After 3-4 months, the effect of the neuromodulator has stopped. Return of full muscle use and movement can begin.
Clients who wish to have the ongoing effects of neuromodulator typically revisit the clinic every 3-6 months.

FILLERS
What is a Filler?
There are a few types of Fillers used in the Medical Aesthetic World.
One being Hyaluronic Acid or HA. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance produced and found within our body. It is used by the body to support our joint structure, eye structure, and of course the structure of the skin. It provides the ‘scaffold’ to these structures.
The beauty industry has produced a synthetic Hyaluronic Acid that mimics that of our own.
There is another type of Filler that is used to stimulate your own collagen, elastin, and HA production to get the extra support warranted.
What is Filler used for??
As we age, our facial ligaments weaken and our naturally laid Fat pads begin to shift, resulting in areas of hollowing and the creation of new areas of ‘bulk’. This can be demonstrated as the formation of ‘tired eyes’, baggy eyes, and jowls.
HA dermal Filler is used to restore facial volume that is created with the mentioned factors. A restore in volume results in improved facial balancing, can provide contouring and enhancement, as well as hydration to targeted facial areas.
How is Dermal Filler Performed??
HA is delivered under the skin by a needle injection or by a blunted cannula. The delivery technique is determined by the area of the face that is wanted to be treated.
Common areas of treatment
Lips, cheeks, jawline, nasolabial folds, chin, and temples.
How long do results last?
HA is naturally broken-down by the body over time. This time varies as people with higher metabolism tend to break it down faster.
Typically results last 6-12-18 months.
The beauty of using HA filler is that it is completely reversible! Meaning, HA filler can be removed at any time.
Of course there is risk to HA filler. This is why it is very important to choose your Practitioner wisely. Note level of education and experience.
